Windlass in cockpit

Ken, I noticed in one of the photos on the Nordhavn site that San Souci has a rope windlass on the starboard side of the cockpit. Can you tell me what it is used for? Warping? Stern anchor? If the latter where does the rode run?

Thanks!

Good morning Adam,

The honest answer is that I've never used the windlasses in the cockpit, on this boat, or on our N62. My recollection is that they are a standard part of the boat. I started to omit them from this boat, but then decided I might want them someday.

They are intended for use in situations such as:

- "pulling the boat to the dock", but I use the thrusters for this.
- "backing the boat to the wall during med mooring", but I use the main engines for this

So...

I suspect they are exceptionally handy, but I haven't discovered exactly what they are exceptionally handy for yet.
